A philanthropic donation and a commercial sponsorship are treated differently. When a partner receives visibility, commercial advantages, or promotional benefits in exchange for their contribution, that contribution may be classified as a corporate sponsorship rather than a charitable donation. MAEC determines the applicable tax and administrative terms in accordance with Canadian regulations for each partnership.
